Passive Income? Making Money Blogging?

About a 15 minute read.

Can you really make money through social media by turning your personal passions, knowledge, or experience into a real income on the internet?

Umm YES!!!

Whether you are a blogger or not, I know many of you have heard me talk about “passive income” and being a Brand Ambassador, well… here are a few of my secrets on how you can get free product or even get paid for your blog or social media post!

If you are new to blogging or have just recently started a blog, congratulations! I hope your main motivation is to provide valuable content for your readers because that’s how you will establish expert status in your niche in the long-term.

However, there is nothing wrong with making some extra money through blogging and several simple methods exist for getting the ball rolling.

1. Marketing and Graphic Design Consulting

Market yourself as a “Branding Consultant” through your blog or social media platform.

Like many of my fellow creative bloggers, I love being creative; and there is no better software to explore that creative side than Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.

So do you want to know how NOT to let that $10/month go to waste? Why not help business owners with marketing and branding?!

I do TONS of flyers, logos, and business card designs throughout the week without ever meeting any of these people in person.

I have samples of my work.

They like my work.

I get a deposit.

I finish the job.

They pay me.

And there is another happy camper.

It’s awesome!!

2. Set up Shop!!

Now this may be the most time consuming way to make money, but if done properly, can make you money while you sleep. And if you were really into #1, this is right up your alley.

Remember all of those logos and business card designs you made? Why not sell those on platforms like Esty or Facebook marketplace. You literally have to put it out there once a week, and the clients will flock to you!

And check out how simple it is… You already have the template. All you have to do is change the personal information, content, and add their logo and vualá! You just made $25 in two minutes!

And if that is a little too much work for you, why not just sell you templates? You can make more, and that way the client can download the template as soon as they pay.

Win, win in my eyes!

Do you know how many times I get a direct message with “Is this still available?”

Yes, sir it is!

More into art? There are websites like Fine Art America that sells your art for you! You just tell them how much you would like to make, and boom, you are in business!

This is how you go to sleep, and wake up with emails about logos, Esty purchases, and marketplace emails!

3. Affiliate Marketing for Products

( This is a biggie. My current life.)

This is what I call “Modern Day Marketing”. Back in the day, if you found out about a new lip gloss you would either:

  1. See it in a magazine or on the television
  2. See if on the side of a bus
  3. Or actually have to walk into the store and allow them to pitch it to you

Well… in a world where social media is life (to companies, of course!), most of your customers will find you and buy your product because they saw it on someone else…on social media.

“So Laurin, where do you come in?”

Companies use us. Kinda harsh right?! No, it’s a partnership between us (Bloggers, Influencers, and Brand Ambassadors) and the company to help drive sales. And in return we receive free product, reviews for other companies to see, and even sometimes compensation. So now, instead of marketing in a magazine ad, bus, or store, I market on:

  1. Instagram
  2. Facebook
  3. And on my blog

For a combined total of about 20k followers!

Essentially, I test out these product, services, or places and tell my followers to buy it, try it, or visit a certain place! The biggest thing that I would stress to anyone wanting to get into this is…

Make sure the products you are advertising, are things that:

  1. You would actually buy and use.
  2. You would like to broadcast and talk about.
  3. THAT REPRESENT YOUR BRAND IN A POSITIVE LIGHT.

I cannot stress this enough.

Yes free stuff is free stuff.

But I would NEVER broadcast and promote something that is completely out of the scope of my work i.e. sex toys- literally the only example I could think of…

I have a mommy and mini lifestyle, fashion, and travel blog. – Enough said.

OR! Dog Food. Lol. I love dogs, but I don’t have a dog, so this would be a waste to discuss.

4. Create E-books and Information Products (I want to start this soon!)

Regular blogging is the ideal training ground for creating e-books, still one of the most popular forms of information products being sold by online entrepreneurs today.

Consider your blogs as “free” information that you offer to readers to demonstrate your expertise. With time, they become your fans and are ready for more in-depth material. This is your opportunity to make money—by presenting your e-books for sale alongside your free blog.

Just make sure that the e-book builds on your blog output—don’t simply rehash what they have already seen!

After all, these people are now paying customers and will get upset with old information.

Later on, as you become more established and your archived material becomes more extensive, poll your readers to see what topics they’d be interested in learning more about and potentially what topics of e-books they’d be interested in purchasing.

Again, you can sell an e-book for a much higher price than a regular book and benefit from a much higher profit margin.

5. Offer One-on-One Coaching (A Blogging Branding Consultant)

This is one of the quickest and easiest ways you can turn your expertise into money. The fact that you are publishing a blog and providing information in your market makes you an expert in your niche.

In many cases people want to get personalized advice directly from the expert in their market.

You can simply put up a page on your blog offering one-on-one coaching to answer any questions they have or give them advice for a handsome fee.

Notice that I avoided putting a specific dollar figure on the amount you can make from blogging. It will come down to your work ethic, your skills as a writer, your ability to generate targeted traffic, and plain old good luck.

You have to decide where in the blogging “big leagues” you want to end up.

That being said, there are countless success stories out there, and the formula for success is surprisingly simple. It’s just up to you to get it done!
