Woman to Woman

Uh oh, ok, here we go. We gotta have a BIG talk, sis.  The talk that makes us get serious about who we are…  The talk that ALL OF US try to ignore…  The talk that literally drives us all crazy!

The talk about… Our bodies!

No matter who you are, or how confident you are, we’ve all had insecurities about some 26229886_10157122266383569_3885318247388171279_npart of our bodies. And for as long as I remember, there has been something about my body that I didn’t like. Like everyone else in the world right?

Is my butt too big?

Are my lips too small?

Are my boobs perky enough?

These things have been the center of attention for as long as I can remember, and now they are being magnified in “The Instagram” era.

Let’s get one thing out of the way, I’m not here to tell you whether or not you should have any surgeries, alterations, or adjustments to your body, but what I AM here to tell you is that all beauty starts from within.

Let’s take a journey down memory lane:

This picture for example, was taken in 2010, when all the girls at my school were half my399118_10151138920613569_2047572707_n size which made me feel HUGE. Back in high school, we all thought we were fat right? Oh but what I would do to get back there!

Fast forward a few years, it was my first year of college, and I was feeling good, but I’m sure we all have that grandma that warns you about “gaining all that weight your first year.” (Freshman 15 as we know it) Well guess what? Yup, you guessed it. I gained weight, but it wasn’t until the upcoming years that I really added a few extra pounds. And it doesn’t help that my man at the time LOVED TO COOK. So yes, even as picky as I am, I still ate good!  And with eating good comes the exaggerated attention from the opposite sex.

“Woah ma, you thick!”  I’ve always HATED that word. Like why are you describing me in the same manner that you would of a piece of bacon or a steak?!  Then, we have charts like the one below that try to force us to pick and decide which body type we are. (And if you think like me [clearly completely in denial] , I’m always the skinniest one).

So, where does true beauty come from? You think you know what I’m about to say, 409013_10150791442028569_749328799_nright!? 😂 Well yeah it’s true, but I rather describe the source of beauty using an example of two men, and I’m sure you have run into both of them at one time or another… if not just wait!

Have you ever met a guy that was drop dead gorgeous? One look and you have planned your whole future: wedding, kids, house, your whole life with him, by just looking at him?! I’m talking banging body, nice smile (kills me every time), and eye contact. THAT EYE CONTACT THOUGH. It’s a connection you [think you] feel deep, deep, deep down. But, when you actually try to have a conversation with him, he’s conceded, annoying, insecure, and a ladies man with wandering eyes.

Piss off right?

But the guy over there… the guy you looked over to see “Mr.Perfect”. He is low key cute. You know that low key cute is the guy you overlook because he wasn’t trying to be seen; but when you actually sit down to converse with him, you fall in love with his convo alone! He’s an intellectual, easy going, a down to earth type of guy that makes you laugh so much that y’all crack up laughing from just a look from across the room.

“Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.” —Khalil Gibran

Being a “beautiful person” is not at all about what you look like or how much you paid 430872_10150765983248569_873127063_nfor it.  Being beautiful is about how you treat other people, how you act when no one is around, and how you react to ugliness. Now don’t get me wrong, we all have a “ratchet” side. We’ve all done something that felt right in the moment, but when you look back, it was completely out of character.  That’s okay! No one is perfect! But honestly, I’d rather date and/or be around guy number two because you can see his inner beauty. AND, he might even be a very attractive man on the outside too.

Fast forward to May, 2018 when I’m the happiest I could be, and I feel beautiful! Not only because I am finally comfortable in my skin, but because I feel beautiful on the inside. I enjoy complimenting others, being around other beautiful spirited people, and I avoid those who aren’t there yet. And that’s okay!

The whole idea is to uplift. Being a beautiful person is having a beautiful spirit. Be that person that people want be around, because you make them feel good.

This is my life goal.
